Day after day, month after month, season after season passed before our eyes, and we almost lost hope. Alongside military and other successes and and amid many hardships, a dark and gloomy cloud hovered over our heads, constantly casting a shadow. In our hearts, there is was joy, and sometimes not even hope. “We will never receive the last captive”, we thought to ourselves. Our sons – the living and the fallen – spent two long years in the tunnels of terror. At times, hope was rekindled: “Any moment now, they will return,” we told ourselves, only to face bitter disappointment again. How will the sons return to their borders? Will the living survive? Will their dear families endure? So many questions, and so few answers. On many days, prayer to the God of Israel was my only hope. For He is the God of salvation – rescuer from distress, releaser of prisoners, and redeemer of captives. He is loving and almighty. In Him, in Him alone, is my hope! The song “Shavu Banim” (“Return, O Sons”) expresses, to some extent, what we went through — and above all, the true joy that fills all our hearts as we see those dear ones returning to their families, returning to their homeland. And above all thanks, we give thanks to God, the Savior of Israel. You, God You are Light, You, God You are Freedom. Let’s sing together: “Hallelujah, the sons have returned!”
